The Eagle Ford Shale

Royal Mesa Minerals acquisition efforts focus as close as possible on proven acreage where large, well-capitalized operating companies are actively drilling. As one of the most active shale plays in the United States, the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas more than meets this criterion, in addition to exhibiting phenomenal growth potential for decades to come. To take advantage, Royal Mesa Minerals is currently expanding its mineral and royalty interest position in the heart of the Eagle Ford fairway.

Why the Eagle Ford Shale?

  • Located in South Texas, The Eagle Ford Shale Trend is approximately 40 miles wide and 500 miles long equaling 12,800,000 acres and growing as the play extends towards the East. The Play is larger than the state of Delaware.
  • According to the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC), the typical well has an estimated ultimate recovery (EUR) of 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE).
  • According to the RRC, over 13,665 horizontal wells have been drilled and completed in the Play since its discovery in 2008.
  • According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), the Play currently produces 1,500,000 barrels of oil and condensate per day. Wood Mackenzie forecasts the Play’s daily production will grow to over 2,000,000 barrels of oil & condensate by the end of this decade.

Massive Potential

  • The Eagle Ford Shale produced its first billion barrels of oil in November 2014. Only Alaska North Slope and Saudi Arabia’s Ghawar Field have hit 1 billion barrels faster than the Eagle Ford (per industry analyst Wood Mackenzie)
  • The RRC estimates that the Eagle Ford Shale is the 8th largest oil field in the world by estimated ultimate recoverable reserves. Tudor Pickering & Holt estimates the Eagle Ford Shale Trend could ultimately yield 25 billion barrels.
  • Petroleum engineering firm W. D. Von Gonten & Co. estimates it could take over 2 decades and 90,000 wells to fully develop the Eagle Ford Shale Trend. Richfield Energy Partners estimates that it could ultimately take up to 5 decades and 200,000 wells.
